About Cort

Cort Daiger recently completed a BA in studio arts at the University of Mary Washington with a focus on digital techniques. He works in conventional photography as well as 3D art rooted in abstraction, primarily in video and still digital imagery. Daiger’s 3D and video work is often driven by technology, but it explores a world that is imaginative yet also rooted in physical reality. His photography, in contrast, is firmly grounded in everyday life, and it strives to capture the extraordinary nature of the ordinary, the visual poetry of the world around us. Cort is an experienced portrait photographer and also does photography focusing on architecture and nature.

Both his video and still pieces frequently utilize scientific concepts, processes, or images, ranging from the physics of collisions and fragmentation to the flow of molecules through membranes, to the release of energy as light or heat. Physical transformation that conveys a feeling of mystery and wonder is a theme throughout his work. His pieces don't have specific representational meanings, but they are visually striking in their use of color, geometry, texture, lighting, and composition and have powerful emotional undercurrents. He strives to produce art that is aesthetically and technologically sophisticated, but that also delivers visual pleasure for the viewer, delighting both the eye and the mind.
